Progress Thus Far

We students from Tamil Literary Association, University of Moratuwa are here by giving the abstract report of work and service we are doing for the places which are affected by the TSUNAMI in Sri Lanka. We specially are targeting the areas of north and east as we feel that we have enough domain knowledge and help from those places. After the disastrous day of 26th December 2004, we students from Tamil Literary Association, University of Moratuwa all got together and decided to start a relief aid program immediately.

We collected Dry food items and cloths in the areas of Moratuwa and Wellawatta on Monday the 27th and that night there were two lorries sent to Mullaitivu district.(One with full of dry food and other one full of clothes).

On Tuesday the 28th, we sent other two Lorries (one to Trincomalee Vaaharai area and other one to Batticalo district. (Including food, medicine and cloths)

On Wednesday the 29th again we sent a lorry to Mullaitivu. (Including medical items, foods and kitchen items)

On Thursday the 30th we sent a lorry to Ampara district including some medical items. (The medical items provided by Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna were also included in this lorry).

So far we have sent 6 Lorries with full of relief items (including dry foods, medical items, clothes and kitchen items)

The complete report including the list of items and lorry details are being prepared by the guys who are involving in the account side).

Our Future plan

We have been getting phenomenal help from the public, business community and some other private companies and it encourages us to extend our effort further. We list here the plans we are working on,

  1. We are prepared to send another lorry tomorrow (1st of January 2005) with medical item probably to Ampara. (Still not confirmed). We will be continuing this work as well.
  2. We have planned to work together with the medical camps over their directly (Especially with the camp by University of Jaffna (Medical faculty) and Tamils Rehabilitation Organization).
  3. And also we have sent one of our guy Mr.Premnath who is collecting the details of the sanitary situations and we will be involving in constructing toilets, water tanks etc. We are getting some funds from the business community and we expect LACNET to help in this issue in coming weeks.
We have attached some of the photographs we took in Colombo when we were collecting and arranging the relief item.

We will get more photographs from the affected areas soon will make you all updated.

Right now we have 15 volunteers at Mullaitivu, 5 at Batticalo and 5 at Ampara except form the guys who went with the Lorries.

We are distributing the relief items directly to the public with the guidance of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization and GS office respected to the relevant local conditions and making sure that the goods are given to the intended affected people in proper manner. That is why we keep our guys there to work around too.

We have around other twenty people who are arranging the work from here in Colombo including collecting relief items from public, business community and some private companies as well.

We here by attached some of the documents (some bills for sample, paper cutting, and photos) to make sure you all are convinced with our work.

We are very thankful and happy to join hands with LACNET to help the people who affected with this.

Thanks you very much and lets join together.
