The image below shows how the shock wave from the earthquake propagated around the world and back to the area near the epicenter: At t = 0 the earthquake was recorded at the Pallekele station in Sri Lanka, which traveled to different earthquake recording stations around the world, reaching Otavalo station in Equador, half-way around the world at t = 75 minutes. It returned to Pallekele around t = 200 minutues. You can even appreciate the secondary round trip propagation in later time ticks.
