Phase II: Well Cleaning in Trincomalee Area

  1. On completion of phase 1 work at Tangalle, we have commenced cleaning of wells in Trincomalee area in towns: Nalandapura, Kinniya and Nilawelli, since my company has some infrastructure and personnel in that area.

 

  1. We have cleaned 40 wells to date, following observed
    1. People depending on well water for their requirement in most of the area
    2. The alternative water sources are distant
    3. Salinity increased in some wells after pumping
    4. High possibility of bacterial contamination due sandy soil

 

  1. Propose cleaning the wells in area with additional resources and collection of additional data

    2. Days               - 40 ( 10 wells per day)

  1. Surgeon  Captain E.Jayasinghe of SLN working in area indicates possibility of carrying out colliform tests utilizing his trained staff.

 

  1. Will try to map the boundary of Tsunami effect in the areas of work
